Quick start

Shut down the computer and plug in your PRIVACYBOOT device.
Switch on and open the boot menu; choose the USB device.
Follow the welcome screen, then connect to a network and to Tor.
When you finish, shut down from the system menu and remove the device.

Troubleshooting

The USB device is not detected

Try a different USB port (directly on the computer, not a hub). Restart and open the boot menu again.

I cannot find the boot menu

Common keys are F12, F9, Esc or F2 (this varies by model), pressed straight after switching on. Your computer maker's manual lists the right key.

The computer is not supported

Some computers block or do not support USB boot. Email us the make and model and we will advise.

Network or Tor will not connect

Check you are on a working network, then follow the connection assistant. Some networks block Tor; the official documentation explains bridges.

Shutting down safely

Use the shutdown option in the system menu and wait for it to finish before removing the device.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to buy?

No. Checkout only asks for an email address and a delivery address.

How do I pay?

By cryptocurrency: BTC, ETH, XMR (Monero), USDT on TRON or Ethereum, or USDC on Ethereum. After you order you see the address, the exact amount and a QR code. We confirm payment by hand and email you. See How to pay with crypto.

What is the difference between 64 GB and 256 GB?

Only the storage space, which matters if you use Persistent Storage. Both designs come in both capacities. 64 GB is US$249.99 and 256 GB is US$349.99.

Will it work on my computer?

Check the compatibility guide. USB boot depends on the computer's hardware and configuration, so we only list models we have tested.

Does it make me completely anonymous?

No system guarantees complete anonymity. Privacy protections depend on configuration and use.

Is my data saved?

Only if you set up Persistent Storage and choose what to keep. It intentionally retains the information you select.

Can you recover my Persistent Storage passphrase?

No. We never see it and will never ask for it.
